A Marine Cluster of Services to Industry
The economic importance of the Port of St. John’s has expanded far beyond its historical role. It now supports a network of core industries and related businesses known as the St. John’s Marine Cluster. This comprehensive group of companies provides a full spectrum of services to marine industries not only in the Port of St. John’s, but around the globe.
The Study of Economic Impacts reviewed the movement and storage of various cargoes and analyzed economic activity associated with the operations of the port. The study confirmed that it is a vital economic engine for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Among its findings, it determined that the St. John’s Marine Cluster will generate an estimated $283-million in economic activity to the province in 2011, while creating more than 3,182 direct and indirect jobs.
